2026 is quickly approaching, which means that it’s the perfect time to make the most out of your dental insurance benefits before your plan restarts at the beginning of the new year. In order to save as much money as possible, all while keeping your oral health on the right track, learn four facts that can help you better-navigate your plan.

Your Benefits Don’t Roll Over to Next Year

Did you know that your dental insurance plan restarts on January 1st every year? This means that you’ll start the year with a clean slate, so you’ll be required to pay your deductible again, and any benefits that you had left will be lost. In order to make the most out of your investment in insurance, it’s a good idea to plan any necessary dental treatments before the end of the year if you haven’t already met your maximum.

If You’ve Met Your Deductible, Make the Most Out of Your Benefits

Your deductible is a set cost that your dental insurance company requires you to pay out-of-pocket before they will begin covering any of your visits or treatments. However, at the start of the new year, you’ll be required to pay that amount again. So, in order to save money, it’s a good idea to receive any covered services before you need to pay your deductible again.

Schedule Your Second Checkup & Cleaning for the Year

Most PPO dental insurance plans will cover the cost of two checkups and cleanings spaced six months apart over the course of a year. If you haven’t already, be sure to plan your second preventive dental appointment so you don’t lose access to these valuable benefits! These regular visits also help keep your oral health on the right track by preventing any small signs of dental concerns from becoming bigger.

Meet Your Maximum if You’re Able To

Your annual maximum is the capped-off amount that your dental insurance will pay for your procedures and appointments over the course of the year. After you hit your maximum, you’ll be required to pay out-of-pocket for your care. However, that also means that any unused benefits will expire on January 1st. For this reason, it’s a good idea to schedule any needed treatments before the end of the year if you haven’t already hit your maximum.
